Baihaqi's Students

Al-Dhahabi remarks in his "Notice of the Guardians" (3:1133-1134) that Bayhaqi had many students and narrators. His works were studied and disseminated throughout urban centers by numerous pupils. However, some of his most notorious disciples, who transmitted his knowledge and frequently associated with him, include:

1. Abu Abdullah al-Faraawi: Muhammad ibn al-Fadl

He lived from 441 to 530 Hijri. He was the lone narrator of Sahih Muslim and was known as the Jurist of the Holy Sanctuary because he spent a substantial length of time at the Two Holy Mosques, spiriting knowledge and narrating hadith. He was also proficient in jurisprudence and principles and was the only one who narrated "Proofs of Prophethood" and "Names and Attributes".

Ibn Al-Sam'ani said: "He is an established, debater, preacher, and person of good character and social manners. He is generously rewarding strangers. Among our scholars, I have never seen a person like him."

2. Abu Muhammad

Abdul-Jabbar son of Muhammad son of Ahmad from Bayhaqi's lineage; he was a highly-regarded, humble, and knowledgeable cleric. He wrote several books in many fields in Nishapur. He studied Bayhaqi's writings and died in 533 Hijri.

3. Abu Nasr: Ali ibn Mas'ood ibn Muhammad Al-Shuja'i

He narrated Bayhaqi's letter to Abu Muhammad Al-Juwayni. His biography can be found in the books of 'Tabaqat al-Sabki' (4: 92), Ibn Qadi Shuhbah (1: 352), 'Shudhrat al-Dhahab' (4: 96), 'The Beginning and the End' (12: 211).

4-Zahir bin Taher bin Mohammed [(47)]:

Also known as Abu Al-Qasim Al-Mustamali Al-Shahami Al-Muaddal, he has been referred to in the Book of Asceticism. However, Ibn Asakir mentions Al-Mustamali's narration.

5- Abu Abdullah bin Abi Masud Al-Sadi [(48)]:

Ibn Asakir has reported from him as discussed in the book “Elucidating the Lies of the Fabricator.”

6-Abu Al-Maali: Mohammed bin Ismail bin Mohammed bin Al-Hussein Al-Persian Al-Nishapuri [(49)]:

He is known for narrating Al-Sunan Al-Kabir from Imam Al-Bayhaqi, he passed away in the year 539 Hijri.

7- Judge Abu Abdullah Al-Hussein bin Ali bin Fatimah Al-Bayhaqi, Judge of Khosrowjerd [(50)]:

He died in Khosrowjerd.

8- Ismail bin Ahmed Al-Bayhaqi [(51)]:

Son of the author who lived from 428 to 507 Hijri. He learned from his father and traveled in pursuit of knowledge. He died in Bayhaq. He was a virtuous man and pleased with the Sufi path.

9- Grandson of Al-Bayhaqi: Abu Al-Hassan, Ubaid Allah bin Mohammed bin Ahmed [(52)] :

He narrated the book "Proofs of Prophethood and knowing the conditions of the legislator" He also narrated several books from his grandfather. He died in the year 523 Hijri at the age of 74.

10-The Hafiz Abu Zakariya: Yahya bin Abdul Wahhab bin Mohammed bin Ishaq bin Manda Al-Abadi Al-Isfahani, the deceased (511):

He is the author of history, he heard from Al-Bayhaqi in Nishapur. As-Sam’ani says about him, "He was a man of considerable stature, abundant virtue, and extensive knowledge.
